Higher Education for US Students

Universities Abroad (Study in Europe)

If you are interested in pursuing your college education abroad, but didn’t know where to start, we can help.
Many colleges and universities in Europe are hungry for international students and offer a multitude of degree and certificate programs that cost a fraction of even an in-state university tuition.
While speaking the language certainly helps, it isn’t always necessary as many of the programs are taught in English. Unlike in the US, there isn’t a unified application for European universities, therefore each college and university needs to be applied to individually.

The majority of Dutch universities now offer a lot of their coursework in English and are very affordable. The annual tuition ranges between €7500 for a business degrees and €32000 for clinical medicine programs, which unlike in the US can be started immediately after high school. Living expenses typically cost between €7500 to €10000 per year and will cover housing, meals, all college fees, books, and personal expenses.

The requirements will vary based on the university and the chosen degree program, but in most cases you will be asked your academic transcripts, recommendations, and a personal statement. It is still possibly to apply directly, but most universities now accept applications through STUDIELINK , a centralized application service. Very often European Universities will invite international students for an interview typically conducted via Skype.

Eastern European Universities also offer degrees programs taught in English, but tuition there will often cost you less than 5000 in US currency and living expenses will come up to around 2-3000 a year, depending on the country and the city.

Higher Education in the UK:

United Kingdom is one of the leading education providers to international students. In recent years, rising tuition costs in the US have driven many American students to pursue their bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the UK. It only takes 3 years to complete a bachelor degree in England or Northern Ireland, 4 in Scotland, and it costs significantly less than in the USA. The application process is similar to the one in the US, successfully completing high school being the first step. And just like in the US, top universities such as Oxford and Cambridge are much more selective and accept only the most accomplished students.

Since 1961, UCAS - Universities and Colleges Admissions Service - has been helping applicants to the British universities find the right programs and apply to them. Similarly to the Common Application, UCAS database holds the information about all available academic programs and their application requirements. And like Naviance, helps you select the best programs for you, by defining your academic accomplishments and future goals. It allows students select up to 5 universities (or academic programs) and apply to them using one standardized application. Here, students can also submit their Personal Statement, which is required by most universities. While the application is the same, entry requirements to each university will vary.

Just like in the US, students are encouraged to start the application process early. For 2019-20 academic year:

22 May 2018 UCAS Undergraduate Apply opens for 2019 entry.
