Q&A

  1. We are thinking about sending our daughter to a boarding school in Switzerland. Can you please explain why so many schools seem to be very alike but the cost varies so greatly?

There is a number of factors that affect the annual cost of education in Switzerland — amenities, the number and educational level of the teachers, students to teacher ratio, the number of extracurricular activities, opportunities for travel, and many others. If your child is more interested in academics, it doesn’t always make sense to pay more for a school only because it has multiple swimming pools and luxurious dormitories.

  2. Do all US colleges require SAT from international students?

No. Community colleges (link) do not require SAT or ACT scores at the time of application. You can also avoid having to take the SAT or ACT tests by going through a University Pathways program. (link)

  3. I’m an American student but want to study at a University in Canada. Do I need to take SAT or ACT?

  4. My son is learning French at school. Can I send him to Quebec for a year to study at a French school? Will he miss a year at his school here or not?

We offer a number of year abroad programs for high school students. Depending on your child’s French ability, you can choose between a school where the instruction is entirely in French or an immersion program, where some classes are taught in English. Whether or not he will miss a year of school in the US depends on the student’s age, grade level, and the program you select. If you chose a non-credit program your child will have to repeat the grade he will miss. A for-credit program will allow him to transfer back to his current school and continue at the following grade level.
